Since 1994 the Jerusalem Variety Center serves as a warm home for children with special needs and their families. The Jerusalem Variety Center was established in order to protect the right of every child to realize his talents and abilities and to promote his integration into society.
The Jerusalem Variety Center belongs to Variety International and operates in cooperation with Variety Israel. The Variety International organization has 55 branches, most of which focus on providing financial aid to children with special needs, both as individuals and as groups.
What makes the Jerusalem Variety Center unique is that it serves as an umbrella for a broad variety of therapeutic and support operations for children between seven months and 18 years of age. Hundreds of children with special needs and typical children from all sectors of Israeli society: religious, secular, Arabs and Jews, participate in the various activities held at the center.
The guiding principles of the Jerusalem Variety Center are:
- To improve and promote the welfare and quality of life for children with special needs and their families.
- To ensure the full realization of the developmental potential of children with special needs, with the goal of attaining maximum independence, by means of early diagnosis and the identification of physical, developmental and mental disabilities, and the establishment and operation of high-quality services to treat these disabilities.
- To promote tolerance and social inclusion of children with special needs with the goal of ensuring their equal integration into society.
- To ensure the integration of people with special needs as productive adults in society.
- To expand the bank of knowledge in child development by means of creating and developing a research and monitoring system, training personnel, counseling and advising parents and other family members.
